IAUCs & MPECs on the Web
As an experiment, announced at the 1997 IAU General Assembly in Kyoto,
the IAUCs and MPECs may now be read freely on the CBAT/MPC
website. NOTE: Due to the much reduced income from subscriptions
over the past few years,
this experiment was terminated on 2004 Nov. 9: IAUCs are now
restricted to subscribers only.
Ensure that you have read these notes
on the conditions under which circulars are made available on our WWW site.
Note in particular that circulars are not to be redistributed--this restriction
includes, but is not limited to, posting on other websites or USENET
newsgroups, or included on CD-ROMs.
Note that newly-issued IAUCs may be subject to a delay before
being posted on the Web. If you have a need for immediate, passive
delivery of circulars, you must continue to have a
subscription.
How Do I Access The Circulars?
Follow
this link to the
search facilities,
this link
to the titles from the 20 most-recent IAUCs or
this link to the titles from the
20 most-recent MPECs.
Access to the circulars is also possible by following the links from the
lists of recent and
all supernovae, and from
the links on the Astronomical Headlines
page.
About the HTML versions of the circulars
It is important to remember that the printed version of the
IAUC
remains the official version. Where the printed version differs from
either the e-mail or HTML version it is the printed version that takes
precedence. Since there is no printed version of the
MPECs,
the e-mail version takes precedence over the HTML version.
Each IAUC or MPEC is available in an HTML conversion of the
plain ASCII version of the circular; recent IAUCs are also available in
.dvi
and .ps
formats. The HTML conversions
include:
- making references to IAUCs and MPECs into HTML links
- making imbedded URLs into HTML links
- making Internet-style e-mail addresses into
mailto
links
- use of bold characters for titles and footers
- easy access to previous and next IAUC or MPEC, as well as
to IAUC search facilities
The
IAUC search facilities are
implemented with the cooperation of the
NASA Astrophysics Data System.
It is hoped to have a simplified form that will search just the
IAUCs on-line shortly.
What circulars are available?
All
MPECs are available.
All IAUCs from number 2700 (issued 1974 Sept. 20) to the present are
available, as well as a handful--currently 220 (8.1 percent) as of 1998
Jan. 17--of earlier circulars, including number 1 (issued 1922 Oct. 22)!
Work is progressing (slowly!) on getting these
missing IAUCs in electronic form and putting them on-line.
